Discover the Wonders of Nature
A Diverse Ecosystem
These forests are home to a myriad of interesting and useful plants, animals, and an abundance of edible mushrooms. As we wander through the trails, you'll experience the cooler temperatures that these forests provide, typically 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding areas, making it the perfect escape during the warmer months.
Fascinating Flora and Fauna
Prepare to encounter a variety of fascinating species:
-
Mushrooms: We will find medicinal Ganoderma species like wild reishi, artist's conk, and red belted polypore. Edible mushrooms like oyster, lions mane, hedgehog, chaga, and the flavorful ''Ishnoderma resinosum'', known as the "Salisbury steak of the woods."
-
Plants: Keep an eye out for wild wintergreen, sarsaparilla, huckleberry, labrador tea, blue flag, bunchberry, cohosh, lycopods, and perhaps even a rare species like laurel, orchids, the pitcher plant, or wild ginseng.
-
Lichens and Trees: The forests are also full of various lichens and magnificent trees, attracting an array of wildlife.
